The Lassonde School of Engineering, Lumibird Canada and Thales successfully demonstrated autonomous rail vehicle recovery as part of the Ontario Train Autonomy Collaboration (OnTRAC) project.
Prof. Gunho Sohn’s team developed the AI that helps the train detect obstacles on the track. In the announcement, Prof. Sohn said the project shows how AI can be used safely and reliably in rail transportation, and is a step toward Ontario’s leadership in autonomous trains.
